Cruise through 70s and 80s San Francisco, via the Castro District past gay clubs, couples around town, parties, protests and Pride marches. Magnificently evoking ‘Tales of the City’, our archive explores the blossoming LGBT+ scene of the period in loving detail.

LGBTQ+ Daily Life

Kinolibrary’s archive of the LGBTQ+ rights movement stretches back to the very first Pride parades in 70s San Francisco, with a wealth of dazzling celebratory films featuring drag artists, activists, and many more. Footage also includes LGBTQ+ marches in other key locations including Soho and Greenwich Village.

Pride and Protest

These collections capture the creativity and pioneering spirit of the LGBTQ+ community from the 1970s to the modern day, taking a peek inside ballrooms and nightclubs alike. The Nelson Sullivan collection delves deep into the New York scene of the 80s — featuring the likes of RuPaul, Lady Bunny and Keith Haring — while other collections offer a retrospective of queer culture, including voguing and ballroom competitions
